Last week, Andrew Norton and Pete Doyle, the Co-Founders of our NIS Global UK member firm Nortons, met with VC-backed technology companies in Austin, Texas.
Andrew set up the trip :” We were in town with a delegation presenting to Austin Businesses on setting up in Europe and hosted a couple of events – one with Austin Chamber of Commerce & another with the Capital Factory. Austin Chamber was a follow up to an event we had hosted for them in UK. The Capital Factory was an opportunity to speak with some of the new businesses setting up there and to take a look at how they are helping innovation in Austin. They really have a top class set up. Real practical help. We need some of that back home.”
Pete’s love of music means he will be back ( on business of course!): ” I arrived at the weekend and had some spare time to wander to the Waterloo record store which I had heard about. On the way back I came across a charity event in a park and Austin indie band The Language Room were finishing their set. Great sound – I took some CDs back home with me and my kids and their friends are now fans and want them to come to UK! Austin has a great atmosphere – all the things you hear seem to be spot on – the mix of music and technology. My kinda place! I’ll be back for SXSW.”
Nortons was also joined by Roman Kikta, Managing Partner and Founder of Mobility Ventures, a top Venture Capital Firm. In addition to being a successful venture capitalist, Roman is a wireless pioneer, entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker. Many thanks to Roman for an inspirational speech, the Austin Chamber of Commerce for arranging the presentations, and to British Airways for their upcoming direct, non-stop flights between Austin and the UK!
Until next time,
Doreen
